Let’s go back to a collaboration which might have delighted you if you were in London last April: Between us x The Shop at Bluebird. It’s been a while. But remember, even in our era of instant content, for me, it’s never too late for a good one.
BETWEEN US was a series of events happening between London and Lagos as part of the Lagos Fashion Week. The Lagos Fashion Week organisation partnered with the chic concept store The Shop at Bluebird to curate a six-week popup spotlighting a selection of African designers. Some of other related events were hosted by the store as well. These included a showcase for a selection of designers to present their new season collections and fashion business series – talks with an interesting panel of retail experts on how to succeed in today’s retail market.

You might know by now that this kind of initiatives must be my favourites. For sure! The Shop at Bluebird flagship store in Covent Garden is one of London’s best destinations for an in-depth luxury fashion experience. Having this selection of designers exhibited in such dedicated place to London fashion-savvies definitely reveals the increasing audience appeal of African creativity.
The selection of designers counted over twenty brands from South Africa and Nigeria. Visitors could have explored fresh and contemporary creative work from fashion, accessories, interior designs to lifestyle.
My favourites amongst those pieces would be either Pop Caven’s cool to stand out in this tee-shirt era or the gender fluidity in Orange Culture ‘s sensual pieces. Let me know your thoughts.

The cosmetics break
Little extra about my BETWEEN US experience. I discovered Charlotte Mensah Manketti Oil products. As part of the popup installation, there was a cosmetics corner dedicated to the award-winning brand created by Charlotte Mensah. I was lucky to be nourished with her powerful words as she took the time to share her path to such achievement with me. She spoke resilience, faith, love, brotherhood and dreams. I literally felt she was my aunt when she was speaking. It was the last part of the popup I explored before leaving, what a nice a way to finish this episode – icing on the cake, she gave me a slice of the cake she made for the birthday of one of her crew member.
